Avoiding your doctor when you have erectile dysfunction (ED) isn’t just bad for your sex life — it can also be bad for your overall health. Studies show that ED can be an early warning sign of more serious illnesses like atherosclerosis, heart disease, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar from diabetes.

But if you’re hesitant about telling your primary care doctor about what’s going on downstairs, you’re not alone. Talking about ED can be difficult.

That’s why telehealth platforms like Hims and ScoreBlue allow patients to access medication for the treatment of erectile dysfunction from the comfort of their homes if they’re deemed eligible by a healthcare provider.

Hims and ScoreBlue offer some of the same FDA-approved erectile dysfunction medications, including sildenafil citrate (generic Viagra®) and tadalafil (generic Cialis®). We also offer free online consultations with licensed providers and subscription options.

There are also some key differences between our brands. At Hims, we offer access to 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 products that treat ED in addition to other medical conditions like premature ejaculation and hair loss. There are also a few differences regarding product offerings beyond sexual health, shipping options, and more.If you’re looking to improve your erections, this guide will answer all your questions about Hims vs. ScoreBlue so you can choose the right one for your needs.

Quick note: This article is intended for informational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice or endorsement of one brand over another.

The first step in accessing medication with Hims and ScoreBlue is the online intake form. This allows us to assess your health to ensure you’re a suitable candidate for prescription ED treatments. The intake form asks questions about your medical history, symptoms, and treatment preferences.

Your assigned providers at Hims and ScoreBlue will use the intake form to determine the best treatment option for your needs and ensure that the medication is safe for you. For instance, if you currently take a medication like nitrates for angina or have a history of heart attack and stroke, you may not be able to take certain ED medications due to an increased risk of serious side effects.

Hims also uses your intake form to design a holistic and personalized treatment plan for you. In other words, we don’t just slap a band-aid on one symptom and call it a day. We work with you to address why you’re coming to us in the first place and how you can improve your ED and your overall health.

After you submit your intake form, a healthcare provider for Hims and ScoreBlue reviews your responses and determines if you will be prescribed medication.

At ScoreBlue, you’ll be notified via text message to your cell phone within 24 hours.

At Hims, you’ll receive a message through our secure messaging portal, which is accessible in your account at any time or via the Hims app.

If you qualify and decide to proceed, you should receive your order in discreet packaging within a few days.

Keep in mind that different states have different requirements for how practitioners and patients can interact and access medication through telehealth sites. In most states, a text conversation is sufficient for the provider to determine your eligibility for medication.

However, you may be prompted to have a phone call or video visit with a provider if you reside in one of these states:

  • Alaska

  • Arkansas

  • Washington, D.C.

  • Kansas

  • Mississippi

  • New Mexico

  • North Dakota

  • Oklahoma

  • Rhode Island

  • Vermont

  • West Virginia

At Hims, you can order medication through our platform in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. The Hims platform is also available in the U.K.

ScoreBlue is only available in select states. You can’t order medication if you live in:

  • Arkansas

  • Idaho

  • Kansas

  • North Dakota

  • New Hampshire

  • South Carolina

  • West Virginia

Hims and ScoreBlue provide access to some of the same FDA-approved prescription medications, specifically the phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (or PDE5 inhibitors) tadalafil and sildenafil. These are the generic forms of the popular ED medications Viagra and Cialis.

Tadalafil and sildenafil are vasodilators. They improve erections by blocking the PDE5 enzyme, which leads to the widening of the blood vessels to increase blood flow to the penis.

The treatments include:

  • Tadalafil. Tadalafil is the active ingredient in Cialis. It can be taken as needed before sex or daily for more spontaneous sexual activity. Cialis is sometimes called “the weekend pill” because of its long half-life. It lasts up to 36 hours in the body. Tadalafil and Cialis are chemically identical and contain the same active ingredient, so they work exactly the same. The only difference is that tadalafil is cheaper.

  • Sildenafil. Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra, better known as “the little blue pill.” It was the first FDA-approved ED medication and is taken as needed before sex, lasting about four hours in the body. Like with tadalafil and Cialis, sildenafil is cheaper than its brand-name counterpart, Viagra, even though the medications work the same.

Keep reading to learn about some of the key differences between ScoreBlue and Hims when it comes to other product offerings, formulations, flavors, and more.

Brand-Name ED Medications: Hims vs. ScoreBlue

Opting for the generic versions of popular brand-name medications is an easy way to cut your costs when taking ED medication.

While Hims and ScoreBlue help patients save by offering generic tadalafil and sildenafil, Hims also offers access to brand-name Viagra and Cialis for those who prefer the original medications.

Though generic medication is just as effective as brand-name medication, we know that some people are simply more comfortable taking the brand-name version of these drugs despite the extra cost.

ScoreBlue also offers a product called Viagra AGV, which they describe as “new Viagra” on their website. It appears that sildenafil is an ingredient in this medication, but it’s unclear what other ingredients (if any) are in the product.

Form Factors and Flavors: Hims vs. ScoreBlue

Both Hims and ScoreBlue offer access to standard, flavorless ED pills, but you can also find ED medication in chewable form on the Hims platform. These unique formulations are flavored and can be an appealing option for patients who can’t swallow standard pills.

In addition to standard ED tablets, Hims offers:

  • Hard Mints. Hims Hard Mints are chewable, mint-flavored ED medications that contain one or more active ingredients, like tadalafil or sildenafil (or a combination of both + vitamin B12), in personalized dosages. They’re available in a fresh wintergreen mint or wintergreen mint + lemon flavor. These chewable mints can be taken daily or as needed before sex and come in a discreet tin case you won’t mind taking out in public.

  • Sex Chews. Like Hims Hard Mints, Hims Sex Chews contain personalized dosages of tadalafil or sildenafil (or tadalafil + sildenafil + vitamin B12). They come in three flavors: berry, lemon, and berry + lemon.

ScoreBlue does not carry chewable ED meds or flavored tablets. Their products also come in a standard pill bottle.

Other Compounded ED Medications from Hims vs. ScoreBlue

In addition to generic and brand-name Viagra and Cialis, Hims also offers access to multi-symptom compounded treatments that target ED and other medical conditions that can co-occur with ED, like premature ejaculation, hair loss, and high cholesterol.

Please note: Compounded medications contain the same active ingredients as brand-name medications. Though they’re not FDA-approved, Hims’ compounded medications are produced in FDA-regulated facilities.

They include:

  • Sex Rx + Climax Control. Studies show that 30-50 percent of men who have premature ejaculation also have erectile dysfunction. Sex Rx + Climax Control is a compounded medication that contains prescription tadalafil for ED and fluoxetine (the active ingredient in Prozac®), which is a common off-label treatment for premature ejaculation. Together, these ingredients help you last longer in bed with more ejaculatory control.

  • Sex Rx + Hair Health. Hair loss and ED aren’t directly linked, but both conditions become more common with age. Sex Rx + Hair Health is a 2-in-1 product that targets ED with the prescription medication tadalafil and targets hair loss with minoxidil or finasteride in custom dosages. In concert, these ingredients promote better erections and a better head of hair.

  • ED + Heart Health. ED is an established risk factor for cardiovascular disease. ED + Heart Health is a prescription medication that contains tadalafil for improved erections and atorvastatin to help lower cholesterol, reducing your risk of heart disease and stroke.

If you struggle with ED in addition to one of the health conditions above, taking a compounded product like the ones mentioned above streamlines your daily regimen. You can improve multiple symptoms at once without multiple prescription refills.

ScoreBlue does not offer any multi-symptom products for sexual health.

Dosage Options: ScoreBlue vs. Hims

Both ScoreBlue and Hims offer multiple dosage strengths.

At Hims, dosages are customized based on the patient’s precise needs and preferences. Providers can assess symptoms and carefully personalize dosages to ensure patients get the most appropriate care.

Hims Hard Mints and Sex Chews offer even more dosage options and flavors, allowing your provider to design a treatment plan that works and appeals to your unique preferences.

Both Hims and ScoreBlue also allow you to choose from various quantity options depending on how often you plan to take the medication, but ScoreBlue does not offer personalized dosages.

Health Products Beyond ED: Hims vs. ScoreBlue

Only Hims offers access to an extensive range of prescription and non-prescription products for various health issues beyond ED.

ScoreBlue does not offer any other products beyond generic Viagra and Cialis.

Hims offers access to:

In addition to prescription products, Hims carries several over-the-counter products, including:

While ScoreBlue only sells products for men’s health, Hims also has offerings for women’s health issues on our partner site, Hers.

Hims and ScoreBlue allow patients to cut costs by providing access to generic ED medications. Treatment costs depend on the medication, dosage, and whether or not you opt for a subscription plan.

At Hims, generic sildenafil starts at $4/dose, no matter what dosage you’re prescribed. Daily tadalafil runs less than $2/dose. The online consultation and shipping costs are free, and there are numerous shipping frequencies and dose quantities to choose from. The longer the subscription plan, the more you save.

At ScoreBlue, plans start at just under $4 for sildenafil. Daily tadalafil runs just over $2/dose. As-needed tadalafil is just under $5/dose. Consultation and shipping are included, but fewer shipping frequencies and dose quantities per month are available.

If you’re treating multiple health conditions at once, you may be able to save even more with Hims by opting for one of our compounded medications.

Hims and ScoreBlue offer free, fast shipping and multiple shipping frequencies (though Hims offers more shipping frequencies).

Hims and ScoreBlue also ship your medications in discreet packaging to maintain your privacy.

With Hims, you can easily cancel, edit, or pause orders online. It’s not clear how to adjust orders with ScoreBlue. Some ScoreBlue reviews show that canceling subscriptions is a challenge for customers.

At Hims, we ship anywhere within the U.S., including Washington D.C. and the U.K. ScoreBlue is only available in select states.

When you order medication from ScoreBlue or Hims, you can sign up for a subscription to ensure you never run out of your medication.

While subscription options and shipping frequencies vary depending on the medication and quantity selected, there are a few key differences.

Hims ships:

  • Monthly

  • Every 3 months

  • Every 5 months

  • Every 6 months

  • Every 12 months

ScoreBlue ships:

  • Monthly

  • Every 3 months

Hims also offers a few different options in dose quantities. Depending on what you’ve decided with your provider, you can order 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, or 16 doses per month for as-needed medications or 30 doses a month for daily tadalafil.

ScoreBlue allows you to order the following dose quantities: 4, 6, 8, and 10 for both medications and daily tadalafil. ScorBlue Viagra AGV has additional quantity options for 20 or 30 pills.

  • Dosage Options. Both Hims and ScoreBlue offer various dosage options. However, Hims has more dosage strengths and dosing options, including personalized dosages in our compounded treatments.
