What types of therapy can I access through the Hims platform?

Your therapist will work with you to personalize and tailor the treatment to your specific needs. This may include utilizing a variety of treatment approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing and others that are best suited to address your concerns. While we don't offer certain specialized mental health services (couples therapy, teen counseling, pride counseling) you should feel welcome and empowered to share what's on your mind with your therapist, who will use his or her expertise to deliver effective care and resources to you. In addition to therapy, we offer psychiatry services as well as resources such as on demand content and general treatment information in our mobile app.

What can I talk to my online counselor about?

Your online therapy sessions are truly yours, talk about anything that’s on your mind. The licensed therapists on our platform can only treat mental health issues that you share and work on together. For example, you might want to touch on topics like:
    • Symptoms of mental illness, such as anxious thoughts or low mood
    • Sources of stress
    • Issues around focus and concentration
    • Relationship issues
    • Self-esteem
    • Substance abuse
    • Eating disorders or concerns
All video chat live sessions are confidential, so you can trust your professional counselor with whatever is on your mind during your real-time live video sessions.

Do I need health insurance to get online counseling?

Short answer: no. One advantage of accessing counseling services through our online therapy platform is fixed rate pricing, no matter your health insurance coverage. In fact, you may find that the cost of online therapy is more affordable than face to face therapy or other forms of traditional therapy, even if you do have health insurance. Thanks to the low costs of telehealth, it’s a great option if you want to access psychotherapist services and talk to a licensed therapist but don’t have an insurance provider that includes coverage for in-person therapy.
