Telehealth platforms like Hims and Rugiet make it convenient to get a prescription for erectile dysfunction medications and premature ejaculation treatments from the comfort of your home if you’re approved for treatment by a healthcare provider.

But while both Rugiet and Hims allow you to access men’s sexual healthcare treatments online, the two platforms differ in some key ways in terms of their product offerings, pricing, and more.

Whether you’re hoping to improve your erection quality or last longer in bed, read on to compare Hims vs. Rugiet and find the best fit for your needs.

Quick note: This article is intended for informational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice or endorsement of one brand over another.

Before connecting with a licensed healthcare provider at Hims or Rugiet, you must complete an online intake form to detail your current symptoms, medical history, and treatment preferences.

Much like in a brick-and-mortar doctor’s office, healthcare providers at Hims and Rugiet need your health information to determine the best treatment for your needs and check if you have any other health conditions that could benefit from treatment. For instance, both Hims and Rugiet offer compounded medications that address erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation, so it may be more convenient to take a multi-targeted medication. We’ll share more on how those combination treatments work later.

The intake form also lets providers know if certain medications are safe for you. Some medicines, like nitrates, can interact dangerously with ED treatments. And certain health conditions, like heart disease or vision problems, may increase your risk of serious side effects from these treatments.

While you don’t need to book an appointment, sit in a waiting room, or drive to the pharmacy, you can’t get a prescription medication from Hims or Rugiet unless you have an online consultation with a medical provider who will determine your eligibility.

After you submit the intake form, a provider will review your health information and follow up to answer any questions you may have.

If you qualify for a prescription treatment and decide to proceed, you should receive your order in discreet packaging within a few days.

States have varying requirements for how practitioners and patients can interact through telehealth platforms. In most states, a text conversation is needed for the provider to prescribe medication. However, you may need to have a phone call or video visit with a provider if you live in one of these states:

  • Alaska

  • Arkansas

  • Washington, D.C.

  • Kansas

  • Mississippi

  • New Mexico

  • North Dakota

  • Oklahoma

  • Rhode Island

  • Vermont

  • West Virginia

You can order medication through the Hims platform in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Hims is also accessible in the U.K.

Rugiet is available in all 50 states but not in the U.K.

One key difference between the product offerings at Rugiet and Hims is that Rugiet offers four combination medications for sexual performance, called Ready, Boost, Grower, and Go Long. In contrast, Hims offers access to more than 12 options, including name-brand, generic, and proprietary blends.

Hims and Rugiet provide access to some of the same FDA-approved active ingredients for ED if you’re approved for treatment. These include select phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (or PDE5 inhibitors) like tadalafil (generic for brand-name Cialis®) and sildenafil (generic Viagra®). These medications support better erections by blocking the PDE5 enzyme, which relaxes your blood vessels to improve blood flow to the penis.

While it’s true that Hims and Rugiet offer medications containing tadalafil and sildenafil, there’s a notable difference. Hims provides both ingredients as standalone treatments or combined with other ingredients in various forms, like tablets and chewables. Rugiet offers the active ingredients tadalafil and sildenafil in combination with other ingredients as chewables and sublingual (under-the-tongue) form.

Both brands have access to the following ED medications in various formulations:

  • Tadalafil: Tadalafil is the active ingredient in Cialis. Like other PDE5 inhibitors, tadalafil increases blood flow to the penis, making it easier to get an erection. The medication typically starts working 30 minutes to an hour after taking it and lasts up to 36 hours in the body. It can be taken either before sex as needed or at a lower daily dose, which allows for more spontaneous sexual encounters.

  • Sildenafil: Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra. Like tadalafil, sildenafil improves blood flow to the penis for better, longer-lasting erections. However, sildenafil has a shorter half-life of four hours, so it can only be taken as needed about an hour before sex. While Hims offers access to standalone sildenafil in chewable or tablet form, Rugiet combines sildenafil with tadalafil and the dopamine agonist apomorphine in sublingual form.

  • Tadalafil + SSRI: Hims and Rugiet both have products that combine tadalafil with a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor to target ED and premature ejaculation. At Hims, Sex Rx + Climax Control contains fluoxetine (the active ingredient in Prozac®), which is a common off-label treatment for PE. Rugiet Go Long contains paroxetine, the active ingredient in Paxil®, another common treatment for PE.

Generic vs. Brand Name ED Pills: Rugiet vs. Hims

Generic medications, such as sildenafil and tadalafil, contain the same active ingredients and work the same way as their brand-name counterparts but are typically more affordable. By offering access to generic medications, Rugiet and Hims are able to offer popular treatments at an affordable cost to consumers.

However, not everyone wants to take the generic version of a drug. For those who prefer a brand-name drug, Hims also offers access to Viagra and Cialis if you’re deemed eligible by a healthcare provider. Rugiet does not offer brand-name Viagra or Cialis.

Form Factors and Flavors: Hims vs. Rugiet

Both Hims and Rugiet offer access to chewable tadalafil.

At Hims, tadalafil comes as a chewable Hard Mint or Sex Chew as a standalone ingredient or alongside sildenafil in personalized doses. Flavor options include wintergreen mint, berry, or lemon.

At Rugiet, tadalafil is a cinnamon-flavored chewable made with 8 mg of tadalafil in the Rugiet Boost product.

Hims and Rugiet also offer tablets for those who prefer to swallow their pills.

At Hims, standard tablets for ED include tadalafil, sildenafil, Cialis, and Viagra. The Sex Rx + Climax Control product, containing tadalafil and fluoxetine, is a tablet you swallow.

The Rugiet Go Long product containing tadalafil and paroxetine is a standard tablet.

In addition to a standard tablet and chewable, Rugiet also offers a fast-acting sublingual ED medication containing tadalafil, sildenafil, and apomorphine in its Rugiet Ready product. This 3-in-1 formula dissolves under the tongue, which is meant to enter the bloodstream faster.

Other Compounded ED Medications From Rugiet vs. Hims

Both Hims and Rugiet offer access to compounded products that combine ED medications with an SSRI. Hims also offers sexual health treatments that target ED and other medical conditions that commonly co-occur with ED, like hair loss and high cholesterol, if you’re cleared for treatment. Rugiet also offers a combination sexual health treatment that targets ED and hair loss under the name Grower.

Taking these combination products helps streamline your daily regimen and cut pharmacist costs by targeting multiple symptoms at once.

Please note: Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and are not regulated the same way as stand-alone generic drugs and brand-name drugs.

Beyond Hims Hard Mints and Sex Chews, our other compounded sexual health treatments include:

  • Sex Rx + Hair Health: This medication contains ingredients that can help with hair loss and ED. It contains tadalafil in personalized  doses in combination with the hair loss medications minoxidil or finasteride.

  • Sex Rx + Vitality Pro: ED is often an early sign of cardiovascular disease, especially in younger men. Sex Rx + Vitality Pro is a compounded 2-in-1 medication that contains tadalafil for ED and the statin atorvastatin (the active ingredient in Lipitor®). Used together, these active ingredients improve your sex life while potentially lowering your risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

  • Sex Rx + Multivitamin: This daily 2-in-1 treatment contains tadalafil for stronger erections and essential vitamins and minerals like B12, magnesium, and calcium to protect against nutrient deficiencies.

  • Sex Rx + Testosterone Support: Suspect your testosterone levels could use some support? This 2-in-1 medication includes tadalafil for ED and zinc to support testosterone production.

Personalized Doses: Rugiet vs. Hims

Rugiet and Hims offer multiple dose strengths and personalized doses. Personalization allows your provider to tailor your treatment plan to meet your health goals and exact needs.

Rugiet Boost does not offer various dose options and personalization like Rugiet Ready, and the website does not indicate what doses are offered for the Rugiet Go Long product.

Both Hims and Rugiet allow you to choose from different quantity options per month:

Rugiet offers the following options:

  • Rugiet Ready: packs of 6, 12, 18, or 24

  • Rugiet Boost: packs of 10, 20, or 30

  • Go Long: limited information on the website

Hims offers the following dose quantities:

  • Sildenafil and tadalafil: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, or 16 doses per month

This variety of dose strengths and quantities per month allows you and your healthcare provider to design a treatment plan that suits your unique preferences.

Health Products Beyond ED: Hims vs. Rugiet

Beyond erectile dysfunction treatments, Hims offers access to a wide range of over-the-counter and prescription products for various other health issues.

These products include:

In addition to these products, Hims offers access to an array of sex toys, like male vibrators and penis rings that support better erections. Explore our full range of sexual health products.

While you may think of Hims as a men’s health platform, we also have a partner site for women’s wellness called Hers. Rugiet only offers products for men.

Both Hims and Rugiet provide access to high-quality ED medications at competitive prices. Though neither company takes insurance, your medication expenses may qualify for reimbursement if you have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA).

At Hims, generic sildenafil starts at $4 per dose, and daily tadalafil is less than $2 per dose. The online consultation and shipping costs are included in the price, and numerous shipping frequencies and dose options exist.

Rugiet Ready, which contains sildenafil and tadalafil, starts at $10 per dose, a significantly higher price point. However, Rugiet Boost containing tadalafil (which can be taken daily) is comparable to Hims at $2.70 per dose.

Both Rugiet and Hims offer subscription or membership plans. Rugiet also offers one-time purchases, but they don’t include a free consultation—that’s $20 extra.

Remember that pricing varies between Hims and Rugiet depending on the product, dose, and subscription you choose. However, Hims is less expensive if you choose a longer subscription plan.

While shipping frequencies vary, Rugiet and Hims share some similarities regarding shipping costs and quality.

Both platforms offer:

  • Free, fast shipping

  • Discreet packaging to protect your privacy

  • Online access for ordering and modifying shipments

Both Hims and Rugiet ship anywhere within the U.S., including Washington, D.C. The Hims platform is also available in the U.K. and offers similar treatment options.

Hims and Rugiet use a subscription model to ensure you never run out of your medication. Subscriptions are managed through online portals and are pretty easy to change or cancel.

Hims ships:

  • Monthly

  • Every 3 months

  • Every 5 months

  • Every 6 months

  • Every 12 months

Rugiet ships:

  • Monthly

  • Every 3 months

You and your provider can discuss your options to find the right treatment plan and shipping cadence that works best for you.

Hims and Rugiet differ in terms of their customer service capabilities.

For instance, Hims offers 24/7 support, access to healthcare providers, and a live chat function in the Hims app.

Rugiet offers unlimited, free follow-ups between patients and providers through the online patient portal. However, customer service hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. CT.

Providers at Hims vs. Rugiet

Both Hims and Rugiet are transparent about the backgrounds of their medical teams. Medical providers at Hims are all licensed and must undergo a rigorous vetting process when onboarded. Providers must also complete licensing verification and ongoing training. You can view their credentials on our website. According to the Rugiet website, all medical assessments and prescriptions from Rugiet Health are administered by physicians and pharmacists licensed in the United States.

If you’re one of the millions of men dealing with erectile dysfunction, having convenient access to high-quality ED treatments like those provided by Hims and Rugiet can be a game-changer. While both telehealth platforms provide access to some of the same services, there are some notable differences to consider when choosing which one to use:

  • Product offerings: Hims offers a broad range of ED treatments, including prescription medications, compounded solutions, and products for related health concerns like hair loss and mental health. Rugiet offers four treatments for sexual performance: Ready, Boost, Grower, and Go Long. Hims also offers access to medications and over-the-counter products for other men’s health concerns.

  • Dose: Hims allows for personalized dose plans tailored to individual needs, offering flexibility in the number of doses per month

  • Formulations: Both Hims and Rugiet provide a variety of formulations, including chewables, tablets, sublingual options, and even specialized blends.

  • Shipping flexibility: Hims offers more shipping frequency options, ranging from monthly to yearly, while Rugiet is more limited, offering only monthly or every three months.

  • Cost: Hims and Rugiet prices are comparable for daily tadalafil, but Rugiet is more expensive for as-needed options like Rugiet Ready, which contains sildenafil.

  • Accessibility: Hims and Rugiet are both available in all 50 states. Hims is also available in the U.K.
