Both Hims and Eden offer access to prescription medications to support weight loss for those who qualify.

Here’s what Hims versus Eden offers and a bit about how the prescription medications work to promote weight loss.

Hims

Hims offers access to weight loss injections or oral weight loss treatments.

Hims Weight Loss Injections

GLP-1 injections (glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists) available through Hims include:

  • Compounded semaglutide. Like Ozempic® and Wegovy®, compounded semaglutide contains the active ingredient semaglutide. That said, it’s not identical to those medications and hasn’t been reviewed or approved by the FDA.

  • Wegovy®. Wegovy® is a weekly semaglutide injection that comes in a higher dose than Ozempic. It’s FDA-approved for people with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more or 27 or higher with a weight-related health condition, like type 2 diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), or high cholesterol. It’s a weekly injection that promotes sustained weight loss.

  • Ozempic. Ozempic is approved by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) as a diabetes medication, but it’s often prescribed off-label for weight loss. It’s a once-weekly injection.

  • Mounjaro. Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes but often prescribed off-label for weight loss. The active ingredient is tirzepatide. This medication works similarly to semaglutide in that it suppresses appetite, reduces cravings, and helps you feel fuller.

  • Zepbound. Zepbound is the weight loss counterpart to Mounjaro. It contains the same active ingredient in the same dose, but it’s FDA-approved for those with obesity or excess weight and a health condition like cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes.

  • Generic liraglutide. Liraglutide is the active ingredient in both Saxenda® and Victoza®. Victoza is FDA-approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, while Saxenda is FDA-approved for the treatment of obesity. Liraglutide is administered as a once-daily injection.

Clinical trials found that people taking Wegovy® lost an average of about 20 percent of their body weight over 68 weeks. Additional research suggests that these results can be long-lasting, especially when Wegovy® is used alongside healthy habits like regular exercise, a balanced diet, and better sleep.

Hims Weight Loss Pills

In addition to GLP-1s, Hims also offers access to personalized and needle-free oral weight loss kits.

Weight loss pills available through Hims include:

  • Bupropion. Bupropion is an antidepressant that can be prescribed off-label in combination with other medications to help support weight loss.

  • Metformin. Metformin is FDA-approved as a diabetes drug and sometimes prescribed off-label for weight loss. The daily pill can suppress appetite and promote insulin sensitivity.

  • Topiramate. Topiramate (or the brand-name version, Topamax®) is an antiseizure drug that’s prescribed off-label for weight loss. It suppresses appetite, which can make you feel fuller for longer

  • Naltrexone. Naltrexone reduces cravings for alcohol and opioids.

Hims offers access to oral medication kits that may contain a combination of the above medications. Oral medication kits also include vitamin B12, a nutrient essential for overall health. Your provider will recommend a weight loss plan personalized to your weight loss goals and health history — starting as low as $69/month for a 10-month plan. Hims customers using oral medication kits lost weight within two months.*

*Based on self-reported data from approximately 1,986 Hims customers on a personalized treatment plan including oral medication kits, along with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise. Customers reported their weight at their initial medical consultation and check-in approximately two months later.

Hims Personalized Solutions and Side Effect Management

If you’re eligible for GLP-1s or oral weight loss medications through Hims, a provider may prescribe a personalized dosing schedule based on your health history and weight loss goals.

This dosing schedule can reduce your odds of experiencing side effects while maximizing your odds of reaching your goals. Your plan can be adjusted down the line, too.

Since nausea is a common side effect of some weight loss medications, Hims customers using generic GLP-1s and oral weight loss medications can get prescription anti-nausea medication at no extra cost. Your provider may prescribe ondansetron (generic for Zofran®) as an as-needed medication to ease nausea.

Eden

Eden offers weight loss injections and oral weight loss medications.

Weight loss injections include:

  • Ozempic

  • Wegovy®

  • Compounded liraglutide

  • Naltrexone

  • Mounjaro.

  • Zepbound

Eden uses U.S.-based compounding pharmacies for its compounded medications. Medications are quality-tested.

Eden’s oral weight loss medication offerings are less extensive and include the Everyday+ Weight product. This daily capsule may include ingredients like acarbose to regulate blood sugar, orlistat to reduce fat absorption, and naltrexone to reduce cravings. It may also include dietary supplements like acetyl-L-carnitine to boost energy and metabolism and inositol to support hormone balance and insulin sensitivity.

Eden also offers supplements like vitamin B12.

Weight loss medications can be incredibly beneficial for those who need them, but they’re not a cure-all. These treatments are most effective when used alongside dietary changes and exercise.

Some companies offer weight loss services to help you make the lifestyle changes needed for long-term weight loss and maintenance.

Here’s how Hims and Eden compare beyond the medications.

Hims

Through Hims, you’ll get a personalized plan to support your weight loss efforts.

You’ll also get access to the Hims mobile app, which includes:

  • Strategic protocols to help improve nutrition, movement, and sleep-based habits for sustained weight loss

  • In-app sleep and mindset techniques developed by psychologists to help improve sleep quality

  • Daily protein advice to help maintain muscle mass while taking medication

  • Daily activity goals to maintain regular movement while taking medication

  • 100+ healthy recipes and meal plans developed with nutritionists

  • Nutrition advice tailored to your unique eating profile (i.e., whether you’re an emotional eater or eat out of habit)

  • Doctor-recommended meal replacements with up to 27g of protein per serving for convenient portion control

  • Unlimited 24/7 access to messaging with healthcare providers

You can also buy meal replacement bars and shakes through the Hims app. These bars and shakes are high in protein and designed to support those on GLP-1 medications.

Meal replacement shakes and bars are high in protein and can help you retain muscle mass as you lose fat, feel fuller for longer after eating, and get enough nutrients while suppressing your appetite.

Eden

Eden offers a personalized weight loss plan. You’ll have regular check-ins with providers.

Eden does not currently have an app, but it does offer access to meal plans and meal delivery through Eden Meals.

You can access weight loss medications through Hims and Eden online if you’re approved for treatment after an online medical consultation. The process is similar for both telehealth companies. We’ll break down the details below.

Hims Weight Loss Process

Here’s how Hims works:

  • Complete an online assessment. Start by filling out an online intake form, answering a few questions about your weight, weight loss goals, medical history, and lifestyle.

  • A healthcare provider will go over your answers. A licensed provider trained in weight loss will review your answers and let you know if you’re a good candidate for weight loss medication. There’s usually no need for a call or video consultation, though it’s required in some states.

  • Get a prescription and treatment plan. If eligible, your provider may prescribe weight loss medication and send you a personalized treatment plan.

  • Medication is shipped to you. Medication is shipped directly to your door in discreet packaging. When necessary, temperature-controlled shipping is available to keep your medication stable. You’ll get instructions, injection supplies (if needed), and immediate access to the Hims app for additional support.

  • Get ongoing care. You’ll have 24/7 unlimited access to medical providers trained in weight loss via the Hims app. You can ask questions, share concerns about side effects, and get adjustments to your treatment plan, if necessary.

Eden Weight Loss Process

With Eden, you’ll start with an online assessment, sharing information about your weight, goals, and any health issues. A provider will then go over your answers to determine if you’re a good fit for weight loss medication. You may need to do lab tests before getting treatment.

If eligible, you’ll get a prescription and a personalized weight loss plan. Medication is then shipped to your door, and you’ll have regular check-ins with providers to monitor your progress.

Here’s how Hims and Eden compare on costs and subscription models.

Hims

Hims oral weight loss medications start from $69 a month with a 10-month plan, paid upfront in full.

Through Hims, access to compounded semaglutide starts at $199 a month with a 12-month plan, paid upfront in full. It’s also worth noting that compounded semaglutide through Hims has several subscription options available — including 1-, 4-, and 6-month plans — so you can choose one that works for your budget and your goals.

For all of the above medications, there are a variety of subscription model options to choose from, depending on factors like your budget and how much flexibility you’re looking for.

Hims doesn’t require you to have health insurance, but you can save money if you have a health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA). These allow you to use pre-tax dollars to cover costs, which may save you around 30%.* Both Hims GLP-1s and oral medication kits are eligible for HSA or FSA reimbursement (plan-dependent).

*FSA/HSA eligibility and coverage vary by plan provider. Actual savings depend on your tax rate.

The cost of weight loss treatments on the Hims platform includes:

  • Your initial consultation

  • Your prescription medication

  • Shipping

  • Ongoing medication and dose adjustments

  • Ongoing access to licensed providers who are trained in weight management

  • Access to the Hims app, including dynamic protocols to help improve nutrition, movement, and sleep-based habits for sustained weight loss

  • Prescription anti-nausea medication (if appropriate for you)

Eden

Weight loss medications through Eden start from $196 a month.

You don’t need insurance to access Eden weight loss treatments.

Subscription lengths vary by medication. You might be able to choose from monthly, quarterly, six-month, or yearly subscriptions.

The cost of Eden treatments includes the initial consultation, shipping, and check-ins with a healthcare professional. And the medication price is the same for every dose.

Here’s how the two telehealth companies compare on shipping — a key factor to consider when getting medication online.

Hims

Hims offers two-day shipping at no extra cost, although delivery and processing times can vary by state.

Medication is shipped in temperature-controlled packaging to keep it safe and stable.

Hims uses discreet packaging, and medications are delivered directly to your door.

Eden

Eden offers free overnight shipping, although delivery times can vary.

Hopefully, we’ve given you all the info you need to make a choice between Hims and Eden for weight loss.
